| Dance Academy - Class Descriptions |

All of the following classes incorporate stretching, warm-up & cool down exercises. Techniques and mechanics taught are appropriate for that particular age and skill level.

Intermediate and advanced classes also incorporate higher level physical wellness and physical conditioning exercises.

All intermediate level placement is determined by the instructor and/or director based upon proficiency and skill set. This is for the safety and confidence of the student.

| Pre-Ballet :: Ages 4-7 Pre-Ballet intended for the younger student who still requires endearing attention and discipline through fun techniques. Students shall participate in dance games through which they development fine and gross motor skills as they run, skip, leap, stretch, jump, coordinate, balance, isolate and move to the music. They also develop social skills through collaborative and cooperative games. The students are also introduced to basic shapes, positions and terminology of ballet as well as "child-like" terms to refer to the movements. While learning these many skills, the child shall build their physical and emotional confidence to explore and create. NE Walzem Mondays @ 6:00 PM NW Evers Thursday @ 6:30 PM
Ballet I :: Ages 5-9 The previous techniques are all applied at this level and are progressed. The development of the body is encouraged through stretching and strengthening. Additional postures and positions are taught as well as the terminology. The skills taught through the movement of creative games is applied to a higher level. Additional barre work is added and technique as well as choreography of dance routines is more complex. NE Walzem Mondays @ 7:00 PM

Ballet II :: Ages 10-15 Ballet techniques applied and are progressed at this level. The development of the body is encouraged through stretching and strengthening. Additional postures, positions, and terminology are taught. Barre work, technique, and choreography of dance routines are more complex. NE Walzem Tuesday @ 7:30 PM
Teen/Adult Ballet/Lyrical :: Ages 15 & up This course is ideal for the multi-genre dancer. Both male and female dancers of all styles will increase strength, posture, flexibility, and conditioning. This courses emphasizes stretching, endurance and stamina using in ballet, lyrical, and jazz movement. NE Walzem Tuesday @ 8:30 PM

| Jazz Beginner :: Ages 3-6 Students will be introduced to rhythmic techniques and combinations. It is important for the beginning student to learn the basis of the 8 count. Mechanics and techniques of dance steps are taught & directed toward the younger student. NE Walzem Saturday @ 10:00 AM
Jazz Beginner Intermediate :: Ages 7-12 There shall be an increase complexity of combinations. Additional turns, leaps (difficulty adjusted for age and level) and footwork shall be taught along with props for routines. Themes of dance shall vary through semesters. NE Walzem Saturday @ 11:00 AM

Jazz Intermediate :: Ages 13-18 Difficulty level is increased. Additional footwork shall be taught along with props for routines. Each semester focuses on a different dance style while incorporating basic dance/jazz/lyrical and partnering techniques in all of its choreography and dance presentation pieces. Youth Ballroom :: Ages 9-18 Difficulty level is increased. Partnering techniques are the primary focus of this course. Choreography is based around the partnering of the dancers. Each semester focuses on a different dance style while incorporating basic dance/jazz/lyrical and partnering techniques in all of its choreography and dance presentation pieces. | Kid's Funk / Intro to Hip-Hop :: Ages 5-8 If your child loves dancing to music videos, dancing at local dances and events, this is a hip-hop street hip-hop course. Rhythm and coordination will be taught with dance combinations and choreography. Stretching and warm up is essential. Hip-Hop I :: Ages 8-11 If you love dancing to music videos from your favorite hip-hop and pop artist, your child is sure to love this let your hair down course. They learn rhythm and how to find and keep the beat with combinations. Stretching and warm up is essential. The class is sure to be work, but it'll be FUN! Hip-Hop II :: Ages 10 - 15 The love of hip-hop dance is essential for this class. It is guaranteed to get anyone moving! Learn the most up-to-date dance choreography and the "IN" dance steps. | Beginner I :: Ages 2-3 Class is geared for the extra young student that will initially be dependent on their parent for support. Mexican Couples :: Ages 7-14 Class emphasizes the differentiation of regional dances and their cultural background. Girls and boys partner within the choreography. | Intermediate Beginner Ballet Folklorico :: Ages 10 - 14 Class develop an in-depth cultural awareness of Mexican regional dances. Curriculum addresses advanced choreographic formations and increased intensity of body conditioning and techniques. Intermediate Ballet Folklorico :: Ages 15 & up Class advances an in-depth cultural awareness of Mexican regional dances. Class is open to adults who are deemed to be at a beginner to intermediate level or who are reviewing from previous training. Curriculum uses adult level advanced choreographic formations and increased intensity of body conditioning and techniques. Junior Company :: Ages 10-14 Audition required. Acceptance is conditioned upon the student's skill level, age, commitment to rehearsals and performances, among other requirements. The director determines placement. Class advances an in-depth cultural awareness of Mexican regional dances. Company dancers are required to study both ballet folklorico of Mexico and Spain. Curriculum uses adult level advanced choreographic formations and increased intensity of body conditioning and techniques. Students increase the intensity skirt and footwork, utilize props such as fans, bottles, and cups.

| Beginner Intermediate - Regional Dance :: Ages 6-9 Class provides an introduction to the culture of various regions of Spain. Curriculum is a beginners level addressing upper body arm-work (Braceos) and footwork (Taconeo) skills. Students will be introduced to fundamentals of utilizing their core posture and body movement techniques, turns, and begin the study of Castanets. Intermediate Beginner - Regional Dance :: Ages 10-14 Class provides in-depth awareness of the culture of various regions of Spain. Curriculum increases the intensity of body conditioning, techniques, footwork (taconeo) and arm movement (braceos). Junior Company - Spanish Dance :: Ages 10-14 Audition required. Acceptance is conditioned upon the student's skill level, age, commitment to rehearsals and performances, among other requirements. The director determines placement. Class advances an in-depth cultural awareness of Spanish dances. Company dancers are required to study both ballet folklorico of Mexico and Spain. Curriculum uses adult level advanced choreographic formations and increased intensity of body conditioning and techniques. Students increase the intensity of upper-body movement with skirt, footwork, and use of instrumentation such as Castanets, fans, scarves, and canes.

These classes are not part of the regular scheduling, but are offered seasonally. Lessons start at a beginners level and is designed to advance upon the skills of the students. Castanette Workshop :: Enchanted Castenettes Castanette workshop focuses on this traditional and popular instrument used to accompany Spanish dance and flamenco. These workshops are for all skill levels, from the dancer or aficionado of Spanish culture to the castanette novice. $25.00 for each Workshop NE Walzem TBA
Creative Movement :: Ages 2-3 :: Look at Me - I'm Dancin' Creative Movement courses incorporate Pre-Ballet and Jazz rudimentary techniques. It focuses toward the younger student learning their basic motor skills. It also introduced the child to a variety of musical accompaniment. Private Lessons Private and supplemental lessons are subject to the availability of the desired instructor. When requesting private lessons, indicate the desired purpose. For example, to brush up on skills, to refine existing skills, to prepare for an audition, need choreography.
