Michelle Y. Angulo-Pacheco, Director of Image Dance Company since its founding in 1991, has accomplished more than just entrepreneurship over the years. She has influenced many hearts and souls of all ages with the love of dance and positive outlook on life.Michelle is a San Antonio native and graduate from Burbank High School 1991; she graduated as Salutatorian.Michelle then graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration with a Marketing degree 1995 and then earned a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas with an emphasis in Sport & Entertainment Management in 2007.
During her academic years, she continued her achievements as she entered many preliminaries of the Miss Texas/Miss America scholarship system.Many of these included awards in Interview, Lifestyle & Fitness/Swimsuit and especially Talent & Overall Dancer awards.The coveted moments in that time period was when she was crowned Miss San Antonio 1994, allowing her to represent her beloved city at the state pageant, Miss Texas.The next year, she won the title of Miss Irving 1995.She took this opportunity to capitalize on enhancing her community concerns based on her platform of Second Chance through the Arts; introducing performing arts to students of inner city schools and helping them associate with their inner talents.She was able to implement this program at the Cultural Arts Programs of Blessed Sacrament Academy.Michelle was director of this grant-funded program for 18 months.
While achieving her undergraduate education on an academic scholarship, she continued working with the dance community as an educator to supplement her love for the arts and IDC&A in Dance within (AiE) Arts-in-Education programs through Urban smARTS, CORE and ArtsTeach within ARTsSan Antonio. After receiving certifications and licenses through this period, Michelle was given the opportunity to become part of the Adjunct Faculty for the Alamo Community College District.Michelle taught within the Dance, Kinesiology and Business departments at Palo Alto College and Northeast Lakeview College.Courses ranged from Ballroom I & II, Pilates, Aerobics and Latin Cardio to Marketing & Customer Relations as well as Introduction to Business.
She continued work with the community while expanding Image Dance Co. & Academy into 2 locations.With the constant love and support of her family, Michelle was able to share her talents and love of performing arts with San Antonio.Michelle began production of the annual San Antonio tradition of La Imagen de San Antonio, a song and dance production showcasing San Antonio flair and zest with Image Dance Company as the cast and students of the academy as the supporting cast.
She has also choreographed numerous dance pieces for a variety of Tejano, crossover and pop singing artists and supported them with cast and background dancers.She also has ventured into offering dance techniques and special training by expanding to the training of divers, skaters and Middle Eastern fusion dancers.
Michelle has also received national certifications in Group Exercise and Personal Training from AFAA (Aerobics & Fitness Association of America).She is licensed in Pilates, Zumba®, Zumba Sentao®, Aqua Zumba®, Zumba Gold®, Zumba Toning® and Zumbatomic®.She has also received licensing in Silver Sneakers (formerly MS-ROM) Classic, Circuit and Yoga. Her experience with fitness programs and fitness opened new doors for her and directed her towards supplemental career goals.Following her arts-in-education contracts and teaching stay with the community college, she pursued the opportunity of working with retired military officers leading their wellness programs as the Wellness Coordinator for the Army Residence Community since January 2014.
Regarding Michelle’s dance experience - she has received dance instruction since the age of 2 with numerous dance studios and programs.She has studied under Jesse Colunga, Juan Casado, Teresa Champion, Viviana Zamora, Mary Guzman, Javier Villegas and numerous other artists in San Antonio.Michelle has had the opportunity to study in workshops and long term studies in Madrid, Granada, Sevilla, Triana, Valencía, Barcelona, Chicago and New York with Jose Greco, Felipe de la Rosa, Vida Peral, Timo Lozano, Dame Libby Komaiko, Juan Mata, Ana Gonzalez, Juanjo Linares, Soraiya Clavíjo, El Guito, Rafaela Carrasco, Felipe Mato, Mara Magdalena, Manuel Betanzo and numerous others.
These artists, instructors and choreographers enlightened Michelle in Spanish Folk, Spanish Classical, Flamenco, Ballet Folklorico, Salsa, and Latin styles of dance, Ballroom and Ballet.
She brings the Spanish & flamenco arts, Ballet Folklorico culture of Mexico, flare of Salsa & Latino music of the world to San Antonio’s front door step located in Northeast San Antonio at Image Dance Company & Academy at the corner of Perrin Beitel & Thousand Oaks.
Michelle married in 2008 with fellow entertainer, Ruben Pacheco, who now headlines the Company’s Labor Day Weekend productions, La Imagen de San Antonio, as featured male vocalist.They found themselves to be two peas in a pod in their hectic artists’ lifestyles.God blessed them with a son, Ruben Joaquín (RJ) Pacheco III and daughter, Emani Aívelle Pacheco.Both are enjoying their time learning dance at the studio and are involved with school, church and on-stage functions such as modeling, music, dance and acrobatics.
Dance has been Michelle’s passion her entire life.But her intentions have always been to nurture youth, introduce new experiences to many, value our seniors and be an influence to others.She simply wants to impact the lives of those around her.You will always know that she will be wearing her heart on her sleeve and treating others as she would want to be treated as well as how she would want her children to be treated.She feels a legacy has been forged from opportunities provided over the years and she hopes to continue with the prospects God has provided.
